Shown above are some snaps I took of the Jax Truckies food truck ralley last month in Downtown Jacksonville. If there was any question about whether or not there is a demand for food trucks Downtown, just ask the two thousand or more participants of this rally. And this event was in the rain. I’d love to give you a report about what amazing meals I had but I arrived too late! The demand was much larger than the supply! This seems to be a trend Downtown. I am seeing a not-subtle uptick in interest in events in Downtown Jacksonville.
Take another one that happened a couple weeks later. The Kona sponsored, Go Skate Day, at Hemming Plaza, ended up being the largest in the country! Here are some shots I grabbed of that event, held on a Thursday night, in the heart of vibrant Downtown Jacksonville. Trust me though, it was way better to be at these events than it is to just browse the pics and videos. You must be present to win.
The beauty of these two events is that they were organized and administered by private parties. Sure the city of Jacksonville has to permit events, and other stakeholders have to come together like JSO and Downtown Vision, but the idea that big events with significant impact can and will happen in Downtown Jacksonville is an idea that is catching fire. We are seeing it now and the forecast looks at least as bright as the recent path. And forget the Biggest Weekend Ever, Wednesday might just be the Biggest Weekday Ever, with Art Walk and the Fourth of July Fireworks and Celebration Downtown. And don’t forget the awesome and completely realistic 1901 baseball game at Klutho Park. They will have FOOD TRUCKS!
With all of these great events, hip new boutiques and beer bars, and renewed energy Downtown, is there any wonder Downtown Jacksonville residency is very high? I was in a meeting of Downtown Jacksonville residents recently and each and every person there said their building was full! Now don’t let that stop you from seeing what is open now or getting on a waiting list! We want you Downtown! Help us GROW!
See you on the street!
